What sort of engine oil do you use (5W30, 10-15W40/50?) - if you car has done high km's (like mine) I use slightly thicker oil which "takes care" of most of the engine noises including chain noises. IF your car has a chain then these are pretty tough, my car has now done nearly 315k km and still running on the original chain. I mean what is it doing or not doing that it needs changing? Is there an excessive chain noise or is the chain so bad that it's affecting normal engine function. However, for me it would be more important to know if the car really requires chain replacement. Firstly, let me say - I don't know how much it should cost to do this job.
